Peer Educator – Man2Man Program

The Tasmanian Council on AIDS, Hepatitis and Related Diseases is calling for expressions of interest for the position of Peer Educator with its Man2Man Program.
The Man2Man Program provides health promotion and information to prevent the transmission of HIV and sexually transmitted infections among gay men and other men who have sex with men.
The appointment will be for 19hrs per week for a limited period up to 30 June 2012. Opportunities for further employment may present later in the year.
Based in Hobart, the peer educator will be responsible for managing the Man2Man website; collating articles for the Man2Man magazine; providing online support in chat rooms accessed by gay men and other men who have sex with men; and support callers to the information and support line.
Expressions of interests should be sent to Brian Morris and demonstrate the following:
- An understanding of the health, social and legal issues currently impacting on gay men and other men who have sex with men;
- High level written and verbal communication skills when dealing with a variety of stakeholders;
- Confidence with the use of computers and software for communications and online resources;
- Capacity to manage time efficiently and capacity to work autonomously;
- A willingness to and be comfortable in dealing with material which is sometimes sexually explicit in nature; and
- An ability to identify as a peer with gay men and/or other men who have sex with men.
