Condoms and Sexual Health Products

Condoms are an essential component of every good sexual health kit. They not only help in preventing pregnancy and HIV but also stop the spread of many sexually transmitted diseases. Hence, it’s always handy to have one around.

Condoms are mostly made of latex and the quality of the latex will degrade over time, especially if the condom is not stored properly. Condoms should always be stored in a cool dry place, preferably at room temperature. Also, always check the expiration date printed on the condom. Improper storage of condoms or using a condom after the expiration date can lead to condom breakage when used.

Remember to use condoms with waterbased lube and not oil based lubricants.

Storing Condoms:

• In your wallet - Handy but replace regularly
  if you do not intend to use it in the near future. Prolonged storage of a condom in your wallet exposes it to your body heat, causing the condom to deteriorate quicker. Make sure you replace unsued condoms regularly. Keeping a sachet of water based lube is also a good idea!

• In the glove compartment of your car - not recommended
  the heat can build up if the vehicle is left in the sun will this will reduce the life of the condom.
   
• In your fridge - not recommended
  the cold will damage the condom 
  
  
• In your bedside table/nightstand - convienient and safe
  always handy but make sure the waterbased lube is there as well.  

• Anywhere in your bedroom/bathroom - Great idea!
  keep them away from direct sunlight and moisture. If you are prone to having a bit of fun in the kitchen, keep some there as well, just not in the knife draw of course!

Remember:
Always check the expiration date on your condoms and ensure you also have a sachet or bottle of lube stored nearby your condoms.
